Updated: 11 hours ago

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sierra Vista AZ, November 26th 2024 - Blackstar Orbital a leading innovator in aerospace technology, and Leviathan Space Industries LLC, along with Leviathan Space Events S.A. based in Ecuador, are pleased to announce a strategic collaboration to support the development of Ecuador's and South America’s first private spaceport. This state-of-the-art facility will support horizontal and vertical launches, as well as reentry from space, positioning Ecuador as a new hub for space access in Latin America.

As part of this partnership, Blackstar Orbital plans to expand commercial operations in Ecuador by 2029, aiming for the first landing of a space plane in South America. This ambitious initiative includes supporting the construction of a specialized runway, enhancing strategic capabilities for both Blackstar Orbital and the United States. Called "Project Latitude" this spaceport will spearhead development at a time when there is renewed interest in a partnership between the US and Ecuador with the successful signing of the Artemis Accords.

"This partnership offers significant strategic advantages for Blackstar Orbital and by extension the United States." said Christopher Jannette, CEO of Blackstar Orbital. "Ecuador's proximity to the equator and its strategic location not only enhance our launch capabilities but also reduce operational costs and time to deliver for customers seeking downmass-as-a-service (DMAAS) in South America. By supporting the construction of a dedicated runway, we're investing in infrastructure that will facilitate more efficient space operations and strengthen the global space supply chain."

The collaboration focuses on constructing cutting-edge infrastructure to support Ecuador's first private spaceport for both horizontal and vertical launches, reentry operations, and the development of a specialized runway for space planes with the potential to support point to point Starship operations providing global space tourists access to the Amazon. This development is expected to attract foreign direct investment, create jobs, and enhance STEAM education, driving sustained economic growth in Ecuador.

By leveraging Ecuador's proximity to the equator, excellent communications access, and geographical diversity, the partnership aims to benefit global space operations. The strategic location offers reduced fuel consumption and increased payload capacities for launches, providing significant advantages to private spacecraft operators looking to perform launch and landing operations on the continent.

Moreover, the collaboration seeks to enhance commercial relations between the United States and Ecuador, providing benefits to key Ecuadorian industries such as agriculture, fishing, aquaculture, tourism, energy, and security. The technological advancements and improved space access resulting from this partnership are expected to revolutionize these sectors. Enhanced satellite imaging and data analysis will improve crop and resource management in agriculture and aquaculture. In the fishing industry, there will be improved monitoring of marine resources and illegal activities. The tourism sector will benefit from boosted space tourism and increased international interest in Ecuador. The energy and security sectors will gain advanced satellite communications and monitoring capabilities.

"This is a unique opportunity for Ecuador to lead commercial space initiatives in the region," added Robert Aillon, CEO of Leviathan Space Industries. "It can result in new foreign direct investment, job creation, and improvements in STEAM education that can lead to sustained economic growth. This collaboration opens the door for commercial space cooperation between the northern and southern hemispheres of the Americas, providing strategic advantages for both our nations."
